Style: Modern Minimalist Warmth
Project Overview Marrasem 2 is a refined exercise in “Warm Minimalism.” This project was designed for a client who desired a clean, contemporary aesthetic without sacrificing the natural comfort of a home. By focusing on a “monolithic” material approach—where the wood and stone do the talking—we created a kitchen that feels incredibly solid, grounded, and timelessly elegant. It is a space where every line is intentional and every surface is designed for tactile comfort.
Design in Details
The Challenge The main challenge was to design a full-wood cabinetry layout that didn’t feel “heavy” or overwhelming within the space. Working with natural wood tones requires precision to ensure the grain patterns remain harmonious across large flat surfaces. Additionally, the client wanted a “honed” look for the stone elements to maintain a soft, muted atmosphere, which required careful selection of materials that offer high stain resistance despite their non-reflective finish.
The Engineering Solution We utilized a seamless Flat-Panel (slab) cabinetry system finished in a light-to-medium warm oak veneer. The matte finish was chosen to eliminate glare, allowing the natural grain of the wood to provide the primary visual texture. To create a striking architectural break, we integrated a “Matched Stone” concept for both the countertops and the backsplash. Using a honed Quartz with intricate, flowing veining, we achieved a soft-touch surface that provides a luxurious contrast to the warmth of the wood.
The design is anchored by high-contrast Matte Black hardware—simple, straight bar pulls that act as a modern visual “grid” against the wood. To keep the atmosphere bright and airy, we installed wire-frame pendant lights over the main work area, which provide a sculptural element without obstructing the room’s sightlines. This was complemented by concealed under-cabinet LED strips, ensuring that the honed stone surfaces are perfectly illuminated for both functionality and aesthetic depth.
