Project Overview Located in the exclusive Sea Shell community on the North Coast, the “Suzan” project is a definitive study in breezy, light-filled design. This kitchen was envisioned as a serene extension of the Mediterranean coastline, utilizing a palette of sandy wood tones and soft greige to create a space that feels both “vacation-ready” and highly functional. It is a masterpiece of modern minimalism, where the focus is on organic textures and an airy, uncluttered atmosphere.
Design in Details
The Challenge Designing for a coastal environment presents unique challenges, particularly the need for materials that can withstand high humidity and salt air without compromising on aesthetics. The client sought a “beach-house” vibe that avoided clichés, requiring a sophisticated balance between natural-looking textures and the precision of modern engineering. The layout also needed to remain easy to clean and maintain, given the frequent indoor-outdoor flow characteristic of Sahel residences.
The Engineering Solution We implemented a dual-tone, moisture-resistant cabinetry system using a Flat-Panel (Slab) architecture for maximum visual clarity. The base units are finished in a Light-Toned Natural Wood to ground the space with organic warmth, while the upper cabinets are finished in a Matte Greige, perfectly bridging the gap between off-white and soft gray. This combination mimics the natural transition from the shore to the sea-washed wood.
For the work surfaces, we selected Polished Granite with a delicate speckled pattern. Granite was chosen specifically for its incredible hardness and resistance to the abrasive nature of coastal environments. The polished finish provides a subtle reflective quality that bounces the abundant natural light throughout the room. The technical integration is completed with modern chrome fixtures—including a sleek gooseneck faucet—and a streamlined lighting scheme featuring square recessed LED fixtures to maintain the ceiling’s clean architectural lines. Every detail was engineered to provide a durable, low-maintenance, and aesthetically soothing culinary retreat.
